Hide the clock!

You toss and turn, trying to fall asleep, watching the minutes tick toward morning on your bedside clock. Does this scenario sound familiar? Do yourself a favor: Hide the clock. Constantly checking the time only increases your stress, making it harder to turn down the dial on your nervous system and fall asleep. If you stare at the clock, it increases your stress and worry about not falling asleep.

A Zeitgeber is a cue or stimulus that helps to reset or synchronize an organism's biological clock. This can be helpful for regulating sleep patterns and ensuring that you are able to sleep and wake up at the desired times. Some common Zeitgebers include sunlight, temperature changes, alarm clocks and social cues. For example, exposure to sunlight in the morning can help to reset the biological clock and signal to the body that it is time to wake up. Similarly, a consistent bedtime routine can help to establish regular sleep patterns and improve sleep quality. Zeitgebers can play a role in regulating sleep, but they are not directly related to the presence or absence of a clock in the room. However, if the clock is too bright or makes loud noises, it can potentially disturb your sleep. In that case, it might be better to remove the clock from the room or move it to a location where it won't cause any disruption.
