Pediatric Home-Based Sleep Test
Quality sleep is essential for a child’s growth, development, and overall well-being. However, nearly half of all children experience sleep challenges at some point. Common pediatric sleep disorders include insomnia, sleep apnea, and parasomnias—disruptive sleep-related behaviours such as sleepwalking and night terrors
OSA affects approximately 1% to 5% of children, with common causes including enlarged tonsils, obesity, and certain dental conditions. Symptoms often include loud snoring, restless sleep, and daytime fatigue. While occasional snoring is common in children, persistent or loud snoring may indicate a sleep disorder and should be evaluated by a pediatrician.
Diagnosing Pediatric OSA
If sleep apnea is suspected, further evaluation may be recommended. Traditional sleep studies require an overnight stay at a clinic, but Sleep Efficiency offers pediatric home sleep testing, a convenient, non-invasive way to assess sleep apnea from the comfort of home.
Treatment Options
Management of pediatric OSA depends on the cause and severity. Treatments may include CPAP therapy, oral appliances, or, in cases involving enlarged tonsils or adenoids, surgical removal.
